A Few Pic-A-Nic Snapshots

Twas one score + one day ago, just 21 revolutions, somewhere around 500 hours just past, when we were looking around for something to do…and found ourselves catty corner from the park. Looking back, and guess what happened…

DSCN1558[1]

buncha strangers all wearing like outfits started appearing as if directed by electronic impulses…and nary a tin-foil hat to be seen..

Luckily, they were found to be friendly and seemed easily bribed into staying for a bit…

DSCN1556[1]

All proceeded to make themselves at home

DSCN1550[1]

Somehow, sitting on the lush grass under the spreading oak crown canopy made visiting that much more enjoyable

And families grew

Old friends chatted in person for perhaps the first time

Getting chummy, as it should be

Goodies galore

Excuse me, is that a Jerry you’re wearing?

All in all, everyone who  attended seemed to have a grand time…and as the afternoon hours danced away, we had to say bye bye, only to convene later that afternoon and evening for another spectacular show.

The Shows and All

So by a quick check of the intergalactic time clock, the Boys were just rolling into their first songs, two weeks ago right now. Jeff and Pam were the advance guard and scored our evening’s home turf. Day 1, hump day in the 5 shows, was looking mighty fine.

Da Boys

Perfect first song, Box of Rain, as that was the last song they played at this very same spot in 1995.

Yup, let Phil Sing!

Yup, let Phil Sing!

He likes to sing

Sure feels good!

Our illustrious Tshirt designer and his better half, Jeff and Pam, liked it too…

Jeff and Pam, pretening to be having fun...great acting, huh!

Then Bobby got into Jack Straw…

Nice, very nice...

Nice, very nice…

And we had a visitor

'scuse me, sir, is that my brother you're wearing?

‘scuse me, sir, is that my brother you’re wearing?

So the evenings festivities had started…actually, they had started much earlier…this was the Show, tho, and we all wanted to be at the Show. Earlier, many of us met for the first time, and as we all gathered here and there and had the promise of a Saturday picnic, all was well…hectic, but well. We  went our separate ways to gather at the focal point of Soldier Field, eager to hear this wonderful group of musicians gathered before us.

Then Trey had his first bow, in Bertha and he seemed aok…and the band did play well…

Lights and more lights...nice...

swirls and rays and spots, oh my!

As the band played on…

We knew we were in for a treat...

And this was just day one…my, my my…

Closing out Day 1...

Closing out Day 1..

So anyhow, we took a left turn and afterwards, instead of finding ourselves on the south side of things , ended up in a mass of humanity all bunched together on the North side of things, and we happily danced and sang our way back to our hotel stopping at the Grateful Ball, very satisfied campers and camperettes…what a gift Day 1 had been!

The Sunshine Daydreamers were strangers who stopped strangers, just to shake hands – online. We are now 35 friends, counting down the days to meeting, exchanging spreadsheets, singing and dancin’ and having a Pic-A-Nic in Chicago together. Expect fireworks, calliopes and clowns. We are Deadheads…and we miss Jerry.
